Thankful Grateful and Blessed

Image
This year, Thanksgiving was unlike any other.  Families were not together like they usually are due to the ongoing pandemic and the dramatic increases in Covid cases and deaths.  Large gatherings were discouraged while small gatherings with people in your immediate household were encouraged.   The most heartbreaking aspect of this Thanksgiving was that many families had an empty chair at the Thanksgiving table for the first time because someone they loved lost their life to Covid.  This year I didn't travel to Massachusetts like I usually do.  This year we didn't have a larger gathering, instead I spent the day with my mom, Elsie, and Graeme.  This year we had an empty chair at our table for the first time, because Martin lost his life to Covid earlier this year.   Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday and this Thanksgiving I truly reflected on the many reasons I am both thankful and blessed.  I am blessed to have Elsie and Graeme.  I am thankful for the love and sup

COVID-19 Made Me A Young Widow––Here’s My Story

I truly believe writing has helped me process the traumatic loss I suffered at the end of April, and also helped with in the healing process.  Recently, as cases surge across the United States, I have felt that it has been even more important for me to share our story.  Truly don't want another family to go through this heartache and pain I have been going through since the moment Martin started to feel sick.  An editor from Scary Mommy, reached out to me and asked me to write an essay on my experience.  Of course, I jumped at this opportunity because I love writing and also because I want our story to reach as many people as possible.  Covid doesn't discriminate, my story could be anybody's story.  Here is the link to the essay I wrote for Scary Mommy.  Please feel free to read and share! https://www.scarymommy.com/lost-husband-covid/?fbclid=IwAR2upIA7AWBCQBT6GSz6hffZ5tE-pAZicd0SctBsLV505rM5LEbBvalut40

A widow’s warning about COVID-19 | Opinion

Image
I haven't been blogging as much lately, but I have been writing.  I thought I would share an opinion piece I wrote.  It was published on October 27th.  Ironically enough that was the 6 1/2 year anniversary of when Martin asked me to marry him.  When I noticed the date, I couldn't help but think that Martin was letting me how proud of me he was.   Here is the link to the piece I wrote.  Please read and share it, especially since Covid cases are surging across the country.  I hope in sharing my story, I can save a few lives.   https://www.nj.com/opinion/2020/10/a-widows-warning-about-covid-19-opinion.html
