New and Exciting Moments Without You
This week has been a bit bittersweet. The week started with Elsie, Graeme, and I celebrating our first Father's Day without Martin. Because he was such an excited and proud Papa he was definitely thought about and missed even more on Sunday. All our firsts without him here with us are going to be tough, but we will get through it and appreciate our memories of him even more.
This week he also missed something incredibly amazing and something that I know would have melted his big Papa heart. Elsie said "I Love You" to Graeme as she lovingly hugged him. Martin would have been gushing over this. He had seen what an amazing BIG SISTER Elsie was from the moment she met her baby brother. He saw how she took care of him and got excited when she got to hold him or sit next to him. But, he missed this touching and moving moment as Elsie expressed her love to Graeme. As happy and amazing this moment was, I also couldn't help but feel a little sad that he wasn't here to see it. I know that if he were here we would have relived that moment together all night. We also would have talked about how loving and amazing Elsie is as a big sister and what a sweet and adorable little brother Graeme is. I know Elsie and Graeme already have a special bond, but now I think their bond as brother and sister will grow even stronger. They bring each other such joy and happiness and it is absolutely amazing to watch. I love these incredible moments with Elsie and Graeme, but I also can't help but miss Martin, because I just know what a PROUD Papa he would have been.
That brings us to today and the other huge moment that occurred 30 years in the making! I know the suspense is killing you, especially for those of you who don't follow the Premier League. Liverpool (Martin's Team) won the League, something they haven't done in 30 years, although they had some close moments in pas seasons. Super exciting, but how can you not miss Martin? He was probably one of their BIGGEST and most LOYAL fans. I liked how my father-in-law said it when he texted me to let me know about Liverpools accomplishment "Martin will be very proud, watching from the great grandstands in the sky." I can so picture that and I know how happy he is that his team achieved the greatness that they deserved! Yes, this victory feels so different because he is not here, but you can't help but believe that Liverpool somehow did this for Martin, and that just makes their league win even more special! Elsie and Graeme both have special Liverpool Bears from their Papa, one named Hendo the other Robbo...two of Martin's current favorite Liverpool players. Well, Elsie gave Hendo an extra big hug tonight as she shouted "Yay Liverpool!" Graeme investigated Robbo with excitement to celebrate Liverpool's victory. Yes, this moment is so different than it was supposed to be, but we made it special and it will be something I can tell them about when they are older.
So yes this week has been filled with some momentous firsts without Martin, and although I am missing him terribly all of these moments have been overwhelmingly happy and exciting. New and exciting moments without Martin is now going to be our new normal for us. As much as I wish he were here, I know he is in our hearts and looking down on us with love, excitement, and happiness. Knowing that gives me great joy and the strength to enjoy these special moments, even without him here. "You Will Never Walk Alone," so true we never will, because we will always have you with us!
