Who Tells Your Story?
I was watching Hamilton two nights ago and I found it even more inspiring than I did when I first saw it in late September of last year. I am sure it is probably due to my current life situation. Well, as I was listening to the last song, I heard lyrics that immediately spoke to me. "You have no control: Who lives Who dies Who tells your story?" As I heard those words I realize you truly don't have control over who lives or dies. Martin didn't survive COVID but other people have, and at times I still don't understand why. But it's true you have no control, and I just have to accept that and try to move forward with my life. I truly believe as difficult as this situation is there is a reason he didn't beat this virus. I know God has a plan, and although I don't know exactly what that is yet, I trust God and I hope in time I will understand his plan for me.
Despite all the unknown I now have to face I know I do have control over is who will tell his story and that is going to be me. One of the main reasons I was inspired to start this blog was so I could tell our story. This Pandemic is making history. Sadly, Martin was a victim of Covid and was one of the many brave healthcare heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice and lost their life. Martin is a part of history and his story should absolutely be shared as much as possible. People need to know his story, he was young, hew was brave, he was a Papa to our two young children, and he was an is a hero.
As I continued to listen to the song I heard "But when you're gone, who remembers your name? Who keeps your flame? Who tells your story? Your Story?" In my head I thought "Pamela", I am going to make sure Martin's name is remembered forever and that his flame will never extinguish (this is extremely important to me). I know it will take time but I will definitely share his (our) story. When I think about what is happening in this world right now as well as my own life I know without a doubt that his (our) story is so important for so many reasons. The two most important reasons his story needs to be shared are Elsie and Graeme. Sadly, they have to grow up learning about their amazing Papa through stories, but also I want them to see what an impact he had and how important his story is to this historical, but tragic time we are living in. People will know the amazing person Martin Addison was and is. His legacy is going to live on because I will always tell our story.
Fun Fact: Hamilton is actually the last musical I saw with Martin. We went to Philly on our babymoon and I know this is shocking (not really) but seeing Hamilton was a SURPRISE! Why was he just so amazing at surprising me?
